It was mid-December, 2006, and my brothers and I had just gotten out of school for the winter holidays. It was a normal day at home, and we had no idea that this day was going to change our lives. At around noon, my parents called us into the living room. They told us to sit in front of a cardboard box and pose for a Christmas picture. Suddenly, the box started moving. My brothers freaked out, and I did too. Then, the box flaps opened and out popped a tiny black pup. I was SO happy! I had been wanting a puppy since I was seven! I almost cried. That was one of the happiest days of my life! I help the puppy in my arms and for the first moment in my life, I knew what if felt like to hold your own dog. This was the beginning of Maya's life with us.
